In the UK it is not a legal requirement for outdoor activities to be led or instructed by someone who is qualified, insured or current in what they are practicing. We always encourage any customer to ask about qualifications and insurance and are happy to show you these documents. However, if someone is a member of a professional association this has already been done for you.

Why should you care if your instructor is a professional association member?

If you use the services of a leader, instructor or guide who has professional association membership you have the assurance of the following:

• Adherence of professional standards such as professionalism and staying within the remit of qualifications

• Adherence with Continued Professional Development requirements

• They have up-to-date first aid

• They are fully insured

• There is a complaints procedure
