AAC 2-Day Alpine Skills

North Wales 29-30 April 2025
A deposit of £100 secures a place. The remainder will be due 4 weeks before the course start date.
The aim of this two day course is to develop skills for alpine climbing, particularly on rocky alpine routes, using scrambling terrain in Eryri/Snowdonia.
During the course participants will be introduced to alpine rope techniques, roped descents and problem solving, with the aim of providing participants the skills to independently tackle rocky alpine routes.

Over the 2 days participants will cover.
Kit and equipment including alpine racks
Taking chest coils
Different styles of climbing appropriate for alpine terrain including pitched climbing and mountaineering techniques.
Direct and indirect belays
Descent including protected downclimbing and abseils
Decision making around techniques to use
Problem solving

Participants have experience of roped scrambling or multipitch rock climbing before attending this course.

All ropes, climbing hardware and emergency group kit is supplied. Climbing harnesses and helmets can be supplied on request. Participants will need outdoor clothing and footwear suitable for scrambling and food for each day according to the kit list supplied.

The course will be delivered on a 1 instructor to 2 participants maximum.

For North Wales courses - Meet at Caban Cafe, Brynrefail (near Llanberis) at 9am on the first day.

In case of bad weather we will find relevant skills and activities at low level.
If a participant cancels between 4 and 2 weeks before the course 50% can be refunded. If less than 2 weeks no refund is given.
We recommend taking insurance to cover unforeseen events like illness.
