WAAC 2-Day Mountaineering Skills Development Course, North Wales
This course is for those going on independent mountaineering trips overseas such as the Alps and don’t plan to use a guide. It will give you the technical skills for alpine-style ascents. The course content including:
Taking chest coils
Pitching, short pitching and moving together
Direct and indirect belays
Use of guide plate
Multipitch, retrievable abseils
Problem solving
Tips on how to be quick and efficient and selecting suitable routes for the conditions
Over the two days you’ll gain the skill set to prepare you for your alpine-type routes and get to ask lots of questions from an instructors who have direct experience of these kind of climbing.
Accommodation is NOT included on this course see below for some recommendations.
Rebecca has climbed the routes many routes in the Alps including the ones mentioned above. She has extensive experience climbing 4000m peaks and is one of very few people who has climbed as many as 71 (out of the 82 list) alpine 4000ers.

We’ll begin with talking discussing what experience you have and identifying the skills you need to gain to have a successful climbing trip. We’ll then come up with a plan for how to achieve your aims over the next two days.

Over the two days you’ll gain the skill set to prepare you for your alpine-type routes and get to ask lots of questions from an instructors experienced in this type of climbing.
We aim for will long days covering a lot of terrain to prepare you, but there’ll be lots of opportunity to practise skills and ask questions on your upcoming trip.

For this course you will need to be a trad climber or have led graded scrambles roped up, having placed trad protection.
You need to have good UK mountain fitness.

You will be required to have your own boots and suitable clothing for the mountains according to the kit list supplied. You’ll also need to bring your own lunch and drink.
All ropes, climbing hardware and emergency group kit can be supplied or to supplement your own rack.

This course is run at a maximum ratio of 1 instructor to 2 climbers.

We will meet at the Caban Cafe, Brynrefail LL55 3NR (near Llanberis) at 9am on the first da of the course.

In case of bad weather we will find relevant skills and activities at low level.
We try to stay outside but may suggest going to an indoor wall if it will provide a better learning environment. Climbing wall fees are not included.
If a participant cancels between 4 and 2 weeks before the course 50% can be refunded. If less than 2 weeks no refund is given.
We recommend taking insurance to cover unforeseen events like illness.
