ELLIS BRIGHAM Winter Skills weekend

Learn the skills for enjoying the winter mountains.
The first step to enjoying the winter mountains is learning how to use crampons and an ice axe. Over the two days we aim to cover the following skills:
Route planning from weather and avalanche forecasts
What clothing and equipment to take and appropriate use
Safe travel in the winter mountains and navigation
The Avalanche Be Aware model
Crampon techniques
Use of the ice axe such as step cutting, ice axe arrest, and self-belay
Emergency procedures in winter

To get the most out of this 2 day course you should have summer mountain walking experience and be physically fit enough for a full day walking in the mountains with a rucksack which is a bit heavier than that carried in summer.

This weekend is supported by Ellis Brigham. We will be using Ellis Brigham shop in Fort William to meet.
Anyone can book on this weekend provided that you meet the pre-requisites detailed above.

Full instruction by an expert, insured and qualified instructor at a maximum ratio of 1:6
All group safety equipment.
Helmet if required.

Personal equipment including clothing, boots, crampons and ice axe.
Boots, crampons and ice axe can be hired from Ellis Brigham https://www.ellis-brigham.com/equipment-hire-scotland
Lunch and accommodation.
To make the most of the time we may choose to use ski lifts, in this case the cost of the lift ticket will be extra.

We will finish and return to Fort William by 5.30pm each day.
